November 14, 2013 during a routine inspection it was determined that two to three coyotes killed two gazelle and a steenbok at the Los Angeles Zoo. It's possible that one of the gazelles killed was the one that only had three legs.
Steenbok, Los Angeles Zoo, killed by coyote
According to animal care person at the zoo two to three coyotes have been seen wandering in the perimeter of the zoo for the last few months. Given that the coyotes are still within the perimeter fence it is possible that unauthorized animals may enter the enclosures and kill animals. This problem must be corrected by December 15, 2013. Signed by Dr. Alexandra Andricos.

The USDA states that there must be a perimeter fence around the zoo animals so people and other animals cannot enter unauthorized. Coyotes can jump six foot walls and climb gates. The Zoo must correct this problem. In the meantime they are bringing small hoofed animals in at night and monitoring the area.
