Dear Friends of Animals,
On May 21, Los Angeles will elect a new Mayor. As animal advocates, it is imperative that we vote for the candidate with a proven record on animal issues, who shares our concerns about animal welfare in Los Angeles and will stand with us and support our efforts to make Los Angeles the nation's safest city for animals. That candidate is Eric Garcetti.
Eric Garcetti has already received endorsements from the League of Humane Voters and the Humane Society Legislative Fund. He was President of the City Council when Los Angeles passed its historic declaw ban. He has been a leader in City Council and supported major ordinances protecting animals, such as the ban on puppy and kitten mill sales and the ban on bullhooks in circuses and traveling shows. He has also advocated for expanding spay/neuter services and increasing the number of free sterilizations offered to low-income residents. In addition, Eric values the wildlife that share our backyards and open spaces with us and agrees that more education to teach residents how to deal with human/wildlife conflict with non-lethal, humane methods is crucial.
With budget cuts affecting every Department in the City, and furloughs limiting essential services, it has never been more important for animal advocates to have a friend in the Mayor's office. Eric Garcetti has already been a friend to the animals as a member and President of the LA City Council. The importance of his proven animal welfare record will increase if he is elected Mayor.
We all know the Office of the Mayor can and should be a powerful force for animal protection and humane policies in Los Angeles. That is why we urge you to join us in voting for Eric Garcetti for Mayor on May 21... for the animals, for the cause of animal welfare and protection, and for a more humane City of Los Angeles. It is also very important to volunteer by precinct walking or phone banking to help get out the vote. If we want good animal advocates in office, we must support them when they need us the most, during a campaign!
