Missing: Painted stork from Wild Animal Park (Safari Park) "A young painted stork that was in training for the free flight bird program at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park left the premises of the park at 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 17. Trainers were able to maintain visual contact in the sky over the Park when the inexperienced bird was caught in a thermal and became lost to their sight. We are asking people to keep an eye out for the unique bird. She is hand-raised and friendly with people. She is likely to be seen at lakes or ponds in the North County area.If seen please call Kim Caldwell 760-747-8704 ext 5276. DO NOT CALL RANGER BASE AT THE SAFARI PARK. She is about 3 feet tall and has dark wings, a white body, and a long yellow beak. Her face is yellow-orange in color. This stork differs dramatically from egrets and herons.
