Things get ‘batty’ at Agua Hedionda Lagoon

CARLSBAD — Bats — the baseball variety — play a big role this time of year as playoffs and the World Series take place in October.

A different kind of bat — the tiny mammal with wings — also is featured this month.

National Bat Week begins Oct. 26, and the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center got a head start on that celebration with its “Bat Chat” program last weekend.

More than 100 youngsters attended the entire afternoon’s activities.

Besides the bat chat, they included pizza and other refreshments, crafts, face painting and an encounter with the “Creature from the Black Lagoon.”
