Healthy fruit for animals |
Animal Advocates works with a few groups that donate left over food to feed people and animals. The groups that feed humans have priority and we totally agree with that. We take left over food from caterers for private events or craft services for television and movie sets.
The food we are given is perfectly fresh and healthy. We take it directly off the crafts services serving table. People are still eating when we start taking the food. The food is not rotten or spoiled. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Animal Advocates has the opportunity to take the food if a non-profit that feeds humans does not have the time, room, resources to come and take the food from the location. We are very happy and thankful that we are allowed to receive this food.
We separate the meat by type. We rinse it through a colander to remove sauce and spices. We put some in the frig and the rest we freeze. This meat is for our carnivores i.e. bobcats, and omnivores i.e. coyotes, raccoons, skunks, opossums. We then separate fruits and veggies for our omnivores and herbivores. Generally we get a lot of bread which we put in the frig or freeze depending upon amount. We also get rice and pasta which we separate, rinse through a colander to remove sauce and store.
We feed each of our animals balanced and nutritional meals based on their species and specific dietary and nutritional needs. We feed a very specific amount of calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates per animal. We have to do the nutritional math in order to make sure our animals get the healthiest food.
The clients who use "green" companies to recycle crafts services food and set props are some of the biggest and most successful companies in the world. They care about the environment and animals. We keep food out of the landfills. We also save animals' lives. Every day we pick up this food we save approximately ten chickens, 20 fish and 1/100 of a cow. Over time it adds up. These companies recycle food because they care about the environment, animals and want to help humans and animals by giving them free healthy food.
Below are photos of the clean and healthy food that we take. Humans were eating it while I was picking it up. It's that fresh.
